About Us

Since we met many years ago, we've been running around with a camera, taking photos of the world and the people in it. That shared love of photography has grown into a life filled with art, stories, and the people we've met along the way.

We each bring our own creative backgrounds to Down The Beanstalk. Dustin has spent more than 20 years making documentaries and short films, while Erin's work in illustration and visual art has broadened the way we approach our projects together. Erin has grown to love filmmaking and what she discovers in the edit, while Dustin has yet to demonstrate much talent for drawing. In spite of this, Erin still has hope.

We love connecting with the people in front of the lens. There's something scary and fun about creating something to share with the world. Whether a project takes months of preparation or begins with a camera and an afternoon, it's the relationships, unexpected moments, and discoveries along the way that we enjoy most.

The name Down The Beanstalk came from a friend who compared Dustin to Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk, venturing into another world and bringing its treasures back home. It's a funny name, and perhaps a little backwards. But it stuck. We've come to appreciate what it represents: going out into the world, finding wonderful things, and bringing them home to share.
